Gateway to external markets

The Sunshine Coast has excellent access to national and international networks, which means supply lines and distribution networks are well assured and it is easy to stay connected.

Air

Sunshine Coast Airport, Australia’s first carbon neutral airport, provides easy access to and from the region.

The airport has 24-hour access with direct flights to Sydney, Melbourne, Adelaide and seasonal flights to Auckland, New Zealand. Brisbane International Airport provides a secondary access and is just over an hour away by road.

Sunshine Coast Airport is home to a wide range of aviation businesses and services, including maintenance and training.

With the airport expansion project completed in 2020, Sunshine Coast Airport continues to support the growing needs of existing markets and develop direct passenger and freight services into Asia, the South Pacific and beyond.

Port

The Port of Brisbane is Queensland’s largest general cargo port and Australia’s fastest growing container port, located just over an hour away by the national highway.

Road

The Bruce Highway, Queensland’s major freight route and part of Australia’s national highway network, provides direct access to the region and effectively links inland production areas and major regional centres. The highway is also a major commuter route and key tourist access corridor.

The Bruce Highway is undergoing an A$1.6 billion expansion which will further enhance the connectivity of the Sunshine Coast with Brisbane.

Rail

The Sunshine Coast is serviced by the Queensland passenger train services, providing fast access to Brisbane and the rest of South East Queensland. The national rail freight network traverses the region and is accessible from Nambour in the Sunshine Coast hinterland.

A business case is currently being developed for a Fast Rail connection, which would enable passenger travel from the Sunshine Coast to Brisbane in approximately 45 minutes.
