Nambour is emerging as a high-potential growth precinct, where a surge in new developments and public interest is fuelling a growing sense of market confidence. This renewal is underpinned by a multi-million dollar government commitment to infrastructure and a wave of developments that is reshaping the town centre and attracting renewed interest from national investors.

Once a thriving sugar town and agricultural centre known for its industry and rail connections, today Nambour is being redefined as a central and affordable place to live and work, with beautiful heritage homes and buildings.

It is also home to an active and growing arts and entertainment community, significant health services and independent businesses.

Nambour Groups chair Rhonda Billett says the town is heading into 2026 with its strongest business momentum in years, driven by rising private investment, new developments and a surge in public interest in the CBD.

She said the town now had “around $150 million in combined private investment and development applications” moving through the CBD and estimated the figure “could potentially surpass $200 million by the end of 2026.”

Nambour’s quiet transformation

Nambour’s significant urban renewal potential has seen the economic landscape of the town change.

Construction cranes, new investors and a growing sense of confidence signal a steadily building momentum.

Because of its central location, authentic character, community spirit and unique businesses, the town is a dynamic hub where community spaces are being revitalised and infrastructure upgraded.

Nambour is proving that careful planning, committed investment and local energy can turn vision into reality.

Investment confidence

Walk down Currie Street and you can’t miss it. Nambour is officially under construction.

This new chapter is seeing Nambour’s potential realised with a series of projects approved and underway that are reshaping the town’s main streets and delivering renewed interest from both local and national investors.

C-Square precinct renewal

Sydney-based Sandran Property Group is delivering a $21.5 million transformation of the iconic C-Square site; currently home to Nambour Cinema, commercial offices and a range of specialty retailers.

Sandran’s Will Phillips says the goal is to raise the bar for quality in Nambour and inspire confidence across the wider business community.

“Our vision is to deliver a vibrant, connected precinct that is a modern business hub and a destination for the community.

“We also see the C-Square renewal project as a catalyst for more investment in the Nambour area.

“Nambour’s story is one of resilience and renewal and small businesses remain the backbone of the business community.

“The C-Square renewal marks a turning point for the town. By attracting major investment and larger operators, the project will provide scale to support local traders and reclaim Nambour’s status as a unique and central hub on the Sunshine Coast.

“We are not simply refurbishing old buildings; we are reimagining the centre of Nambour. This mix of established and new will create a thriving ecosystem for sustainable growth.”

Kairos Community College

This brand new not-for-profit school for young people in Years 10 to 12 will open in January 2026, expanding access to education and youth opportunities in the region.

The Everyday Foundation

Construction has begun on the Everyday Foundation’s multi-million-dollar upgrade of the old Auto Barn site on Currie Street.

The project will see a new grocery store and cafe open in a location which is right in the heart of town.

Royal George Hotel upgrade

The hotel has been leased by national hospitality group Redcape, which has plans for external upgrades and outdoor dining.
The works will complement planned streetscape improvements at the Currie Street and Mill Street intersection.

Planning for growth

Private sector momentum is matched by major public investment from all levels of government, creating more infrastructure to support long-term revitalisation.

The Namba Place Plan

At the centre of government planning is the Sunshine Coast Council’s Nambour (Namba) Place Plan, a multi million dollar commitment from Local and State Governments to upgrade the town’s key intersections and public spaces.

Beginning in early 2026, works at the Currie and Mill streets intersection will deliver:

    • a new signalised pedestrian crossing to improve safety and accessibility,
    • upgraded street lighting,
    • new street furniture and landscaping and
    • enhanced footpaths to support street dining and create a walkable, connected town centre.

These initiatives build on recent upgrades to Council’s Eddie De Vere building, now home to Namba Meeting Place, a community venue which is available for hire and is already in use for events and workshops.

Special Entertainment Precinct

Nambour is home to one of Queensland’s only Special Entertainment Precincts (SEPs), following the original in Brisbane’s Fortitude Valley.

This planning instrument protects live music venues from noise complaints, effectively “zoning” the town for a night-time economy.

This policy decision provides long-term security for hospitality investors, allowing them to open music venues and bars with confidence.

Transport infrastructure

Nambour’s credentials in regional connectivity are being super-powered with the Beerburrum to Nambour (B2N) Rail Upgrade, a massive joint venture between the State and Federal Governments.

In the 2025–26 budget, Queensland Government allocated $285 million to ramp up major construction works for Stage 1 and enabling works are already completed, including a new Park ‘n’ Ride facility at Nambour Station delivering 50 additional car parks to support the daily commuter workforce.

This project is not just about track duplication; it represents a long-term logistics commitment to the region.

By investing over $1 billion in total across the project’s lifecycle, the Department of Transport and Main Roads is effectively future-proofing Nambour as the primary rail-freight and passenger hub for the Sunshine Coast hinterland.

These initiatives will create a permanent “connectivity advantage” for Nambour that road-based areas cannot match, ensuring high-volume access to Brisbane for decades to come.

Health infrastructure

Nambour’s role as the region’s sub-acute and specialist medical hub has been cemented by the $86 million redevelopment of Nambour General Hospital, delivered by Queensland Health.

This major capital works program, which officially opened its new Emergency Department in late 2024, has delivered critical new capacity including a new mental health unit, refurbished wards and advanced medical imaging facilities.

This investment serves as a recession-proof economic anchor for the town, guaranteeing a steady flow of skilled workers and visitors into the precinct daily.

By committing nearly $100 million to this site, the State Government has sent a clear signal to the private sector that the hospital is here to stay and grow.

This public certainty has been a direct trigger for a wave of private allied health and medical office developments now seeking locations in the surrounding streets.

Be part of the transformation

The Sunshine Coast hinterland is evolving and growing and Nambour is leading the charge.

From health, hospitality and retail to transport and entertainment, Nambour offers bold new opportunities for investors, developers and local business.

If you’d like to get involved in the next chapter of Nambour’s story, we’d love to hear from you.
