Innovative local boat builder, Cure Marine, is making significant global waves with the launch of its first world-class Cure 55 catamaran, Miyu.
The Sunshine Coast is further building its reputation as a hub for world-class innovation and manufacturing with the launch of Cure Marine’s new catamaran.
Known as Miyu, this locally-built vessel benefited from cutting-edge technologies being pioneered on the Sunshine Coast, showcasing the advanced capabilities of the thriving region
Cure Marine employed some of the industry’s most advanced construction techniques to create the sleek and sustainable vessel, including the use of the largest 3D printer in the Southern Hemisphere.
Pioneering technology from Coolum Beach
Based in Coolum Beach, Cure Marine is a true local and global success story.
Co-founded by local entrepreneurs Dave Biggar and Ian McMahon, the company is harnessing the world’s most advanced yacht-building technology, combining sophisticated carbon fibre construction with innovative 3D printing.
In fact, Dave Biggar owns the largest 3D printer in the Southern Hemisphere – a technology integral to the Cure 55’s construction, with each vessel featuring over 1,000 3D printed parts.
The result? A lightweight, high-performance 17.78 metre catamaran that sets new benchmarks for speed, durability, comfort and safety in its class.
Introducing Miyu to a global stage
Miyu – which means beautiful moon – was designed by renowned Australian naval architect Paul Bury and meticulously crafted by Cure Marine’s highly skilled team.
Earlier this month Miyu set sail from Mooloolaba for its international debut at the prestigious Sanctuary Cove International Boat Show in May.
This was after the Cure 55 catamarans received a nomination for the Multihull of the Year Award, a significant international accolade!
The journey of Cure Marine, which began in 2005 with a focus on composite technology, which was developed in the supportive business environment of the Sunshine Coast. The company’s manufacturing facility, built in 2022, is projected to contribute an estimated $63.06 million in total economic impact to the region and support 215 local jobs, directly and indirectly.

Sunshine Coast Council Head of Investment, Trade and International / Economic Development, Alex Lever-Shaw praised Cure Marine’s achievements.

With five Cure 55 catamarans currently under construction and orders flowing in from across Australia, Europe and the United States – Cure Marine is rapidly expanding its global footprint from its Sunshine Coast base.
Cure Marine co-founder Dave Biggar is proud to highlight the team’s accomplishments in the company’s success.

Dave also acknowledges the crucial role of local council and Invest Sunshine Coast support.
“The Sunshine Coast Council’s Investment Attraction team has been instrumental in helping us establish and expand Cure Marine so we can continue to manufacture and grow right here on the Sunshine Coast.”
