According to recent Geospatial Council of Australia research, the geospatial intelligence sector will deliver $689 billion economic impact to Australia over the next 10 years.

On Wednesday 4 December 2024, Sunshine Coast Council hosted the Geospatial Intelligence IRL *In Real Life industry event.
Part of Council’s Testing Tech in Paradise series, the event well and truly delivered in bringing together a dynamic collection of people to hear how geospatial technologies are positively impacting every part of our lives and work.
There was a strong energy in the room at Altitude Nine on the top floor of Sunshine Coast City Hall.
Sunshine Coast Mayor Rosanna Natoli captured the energy in her welcome address when she said, “It feels like the Sunshine Coast is on the edge of something really big”.
The 150-strong audience was an extraordinary mix of high-value industry representatives including earth observation, geospatial intelligence, tech, agtech, insurance, emergency services, space, mining, IT, AI, AR, data centres, cyber security, health, education, research, law, finance, construction, manufacturing, marketing and property.

A VIP tour was held in the afternoon with a behind-the-scenes tour of NEXTDC’s data centre and presentations at Walker Corporation and Sunshine Coast City Hall.
The day’s main event was the stunning Testing Tech in Paradise Sundowner event on the top floor of City Hall, where industry leaders and delegates gathered to discuss the exciting future of business and investment on the Sunshine Coast.
Sunshine Coast Council is gathering expressions of interest from anyone interested in the development of the geospatial intelligence sector and the possible creation of a Geospatial Intelligence Centre of Excellence on the Sunshine Coast.
