Contribution to the economy

The Sunshine Coast is set to transform its public transport network with The Wave, a major infrastructure initiative set to support a growing community, encourage sustainable travel and boost opportunities ahead of the Brisbane 2032 Olympic and Paralympic Games.

Key features include a Beerwah–Birtinya rail connection (Stages 1 and 2) and a rapid bus corridor linking Maroochydore City Centre and the Sunshine Coast Airport (Stage 3). High-capacity, frequent services will ensure reliable, seamless journeys across the region.

The project will deliver five new rail stations and a Sunshine Coast Metro bus service, connecting key precincts, supporting local travel and encouraging walkable neighbourhoods.

By improving accessibility, reducing congestion and strengthening regional connectivity, The Wave positions the Sunshine Coast as a future-ready, prosperous and highly connected business destination.
