Brisbane 2032 Olympic and Paralympic Games
The Sunshine Coast is a Co-Host City and Games Delivery Partner for the Brisbane 2032 Olympic and Paralympic Games.
Already one of Australia's fastest growing regions, the Sunshine Coast is preparing to have the eyes of the world focused on it.
Significant investment is underway to build new sports, transport and tourism infrastructure.
Games-ready
As it prepares for the exciting role as Co-Host City, Sunshine Coast Council is driving the progress on region-shaping projects. A number of Olympic and Paralympic events will be held on the Sunshine Coast, with details expected to be announced in the coming months.
- New and upgraded sporting facilities and major transport investment.
- Improved connections across the region and to Brisbane and the Sunshine Coast Airport.
- New opportunities for businesses, tourism operators, developers and investors.
- A growing ecosystem connecting sport, health, research and innovation.
Specific projects underway include:
- Athlete Village in the heart of the Maroochydore's City Centre
- Upgraded Sunshine Coast Stadium within the Kawana Precinct
- New Sunshine Coast Mountain Bike Centre in the hinterland
- Alexandra Headland as the staging area for road based and open water events
- The $1 billion Horizon Centre in the stunning new Maroochydore City Centre is set to transform the heart of the Sunshine Coast. It will see the construction of a new integrated cultural precinct, including Athlete Village, 7000-seat multi-purpose arena and 5-star hotel.
- The Wave public transport project is a significant project which will see the construction of a new rail connection from Beerwah in the hinterland to Birtinya on the coast. The new transport infrastructure will also include a rapid bus corridor from Maroochydore City Centre to the Sunshine Coast Airport, providing frequent high-capacity services to enhance ease of travel for residents and visitors.
- Visitors arriving via the Sunshine Coast Airport are already seeing the impressive improvements underway as part of the $170 million Terminal Redevelopment Project. Set to double the size of the entire terminal, the project has recently passed a major milestone with the opening of a newly constructed baggage collection wing. Other improvements will see the number of departure gates will increase from five to seven and the departure lounge footprint triple in size.

Building a legacy
Investing in the visitor economy
Brisbane 2032 is expected to drive significant demand for accommodation across the Sunshine Coast, creating opportunities for new hotel development and expansion of the region’s visitor economy.
To support this growth, Sunshine Coast Council has introduced a special set of Hotel Investment Incentives to encourage new hotel investment and help accelerate the delivery of additional accommodation capacity across the region.
The incentive scheme is designed to attract investment in new hotel developments that will support the Sunshine Coast’s growing tourism and business visitor economy, including demand generated by Brisbane 2032.
With the region targeting an additional 2450 hotel beds, the opportunity extends beyond meeting Games-time demand.
New accommodation will support the Sunshine Coast’s long-term capacity to host major events, attract business visitors and grow its international and domestic visitor economy.
Beyond 2032
Beyond the Games themselves, the infrastructure legacy of transport, accommodation, cultural facilities, convention venues and digital connectivity represents a generational uplift for the region that will benefit businesses and communities well into the future.
The Sunshine Coast’s Legacy Action Plan 2026–2031 sets out a program of actions designed to maximise the long-term benefits of Brisbane 2032 for the region and its communities.
For business and investors, the legacy is already taking shape through investment in the infrastructure, facilities and connections that will support the Sunshine Coast’s next phase of growth.
Where health, sport and innovation intersect
An athlete care and high-performance ecosystem
The Sunshine Coast is developing an integrated ecosystem supporting elite athletes, high-performance sport, health and research, with major health and research infrastructure located close to key Games and sporting facilities.
In Kawana, the $27 million Sunshine Coast Sports Hub, Sunshine Coast University Hospital and AIS-accredited high-performance training facilities bring together sports science, athlete performance, health and rehabilitation capabilities within a growing health and sporting precinct.
In Maroochydore, the region’s emerging CBD is adding another dimension to this ecosystem. The $100 million Maroochy Private Hospital, which opened in July 2026, brings a 10-storey private healthcare facility into the heart of the new city centre. Through its partnership with UniSC, the facility also accommodates clinical trials and research, creating a specialised health and research hub within the CBD.
The proximity of these capabilities to the Maroochydore Olympic Village, major sporting facilities and the region’s broader health and education infrastructure creates opportunities to connect healthcare, research, high-performance sport and innovation.
Together, these assets are strengthening the Sunshine Coast’s capacity to support athletes and create opportunities for businesses operating across:
- Sports science
- Sports medicine
- Allied health
- Rehabilitation
- Health tech
- Sports tech
- Research
- Performance technology
