The Sunshine Coast is making waves in the global seafood market with an exciting trade mission to Singapore, featuring four quality seafood exporters from the Coast.

Launched in partnership with the Sunshine Coast Council (SCC) and Trade and Investment Queensland (TIQ), this initiative aims to broaden international exposure, boost consumer awareness, and see more chefs featuring Sunshine Coast seafood on Singaporean menus.

From succulent prawns and Spanner Crabs to top-tier fish varieties, the Sunshine Coast boasts premium, sustainably sourced products ready to impress taste buds across Asia. This mission not only highlights the exceptional quality of local seafood but also shines a spotlight on the industry’s commitment to innovation, sustainability and delivering first-class products to the world.

Additionally this opportunity will secure new buyers and promote sustainably wild caught seafood industry in the region, as well as the array of premium seafood products available on the Coast – capitalising on the region’s premium seafood products.

Global stage. Local catch.

In a bold move to capture international attention, SCC and TIQ have invited four standout exporters – Walkers Seafood, Fraser Isle Spanner Crab, Silver Sea Seafood and San Antone Food Group – to take centre stage during the trade mission. Each will share their passion, products and expertise with a global audience.

The official launch event takes place on 13 May 2025 at Oumi Restaurant, an iconic Singapore dining destination under the renowned 1-Group. Attendees including chefs, hospitality professionals and hotel operators, will sample premium Sunshine Coast seafood prepared by Chef Lamley Chua, as well as attend an exclusive session on best practices for handling and cooking high-quality seafood, and meet the Sunshine Coast suppliers themselves.

The event will provide an immersive introduction to quality and sustainable practices that define the Sunshine Coast’s seafood industry.

Sunshine Coast’s seafood stars

Beyond showcasing premium products, the mission offers Sunshine Coast businesses a chance to connect face-to-face with chefs, buyers and importers – while also sharing insights into Australia’s highly regulated fishing industry. These fisheries are managed from a state and national level, and have catch quotas to maintain long-term sustainability, ensuring the Sunshine Coast continues to deliver an uncompromised bounty of world-class, wild-caught seafood for generations to come.

The three representatives travelling as part of the trade mission are Silver Sea Seafood, Fraser Isle and San Antone Food Group – but there are many other quality seafood businesses in the region that hold innovation, collaboration and sustainability at the forefront of what they do – all working together further elevating the region’s global reputation for excellence.

Fraser Isle Spanner Crab

Specialising in premium spanner crabs, Fraser Isle is not just about quality but also innovation. They are expanding into retail packaging for supermarkets and consolidating shipments to cut down freight costs, ensuring their crabs reach buyers in peak condition.

San Antone Food Group

San Antone Food Group is exploring new opportunities with its whiting, and discussions with Fishwives Singapore hint at an exciting expansion into retail packs and additional product lines such as mackerel and royal red prawns.

Silver Sea Seafood

Known already in Singapore for its premium Eastern King Prawns, innovative Silver Sea Seafood is gearing up to diversify its offering by introducing their new shelf stable prawn stock and innovative retail packs.

Walkers Seafood

Mooloolaba’s Walkers Seafood has already made its mark by exporting fresh MSC-certified tuna to Singapore. Now, they’re set to raise the bar even further by introducing a shelf-stable version of their product.

Gateway to Southeast Asia

Renowned as the gateway to Southeast Asia, Singapore is the perfect launchpad for Sunshine Coast exporters, potentially opening doors to neighbouring markets like Malaysia, Thailand, Vietnam and Macau. With robust demand for premium, sustainably sourced seafood and efficient logistics – thanks to direct air routes from Cairns -the opportunities for growth are vast.

This trade mission also dovetails with The Curated Plate 2025 festival, which offers a host of seafood-focused events, tours, and experiences. Taken together, these initiatives showcase the Sunshine Coast’s unwavering commitment to sharing its strengths with the world.

Charting a course for global success

At its heart, this trade mission is a celebration of the quality, innovation and resilience that define the Sunshine Coast seafood industry. From Walkers Seafood’s shelf-stable tuna to Fraser Isle’s premium Spanner Crabs, the event in Singapore is a testament to the passion and perseverance driving these companies toward global success.

By collaborating with Sunshine Coast Council, these exporters are creating a legacy that will position the Sunshine Coast as a global destination for premium seafood. With strong backing from the Council, this pilot program – jointly led by Trade and Investment Queensland (TIQ) and the Sunshine Coast Council (SCC) – could set a powerful precedent for future export initiatives, inspiring more local industries to break into the international market.
