Contribution to the economy
To protect the Sunshine Coast’s enviable lifestyle as it grows, a high-quality public transport (mass transit) solution will be essential.
The Sunshine Coast public transport project aims to provide a sleek and modern rapid transit system as the backbone of the region’s future public transport network.
Sunshine Coast Council has undertaken detailed planning for this solution over many years.
The network will provide frequent and attractive services for Sunshine Coast residents and visitors.
What is it?
Mass transit is a system of public transport that concentrates on moving large numbers of people over a fixed route or network. It includes:
- Buses
- Trams or light rail
- Passenger trains
By 2041, by shifting people to sustainable transport, we hope to achieve:
- 830,000 less cars on our roads each day
- Prevent lost productivity from traffic congestion costing up to $3billion a year (currently estimated at $500m per year)
- Significantly improve our liveability and natural environment
