Our international broadband cable is finally here

Queensland’s first direct international data and telecommunications connection to global markets is currently under going final testing, after the undersea fibre-optic cable was pulled ashore and connected to our cable landing station in Maroochydore at Christmas.The project will deliver Australia’s fastest telecommunications connection to Asia from the East Coast.

  • Sunshine Coast in Top7 again

    The Sunshine Coast continues to strengthen its reputation on the world stage with the announcement the region is a Top7 Global Intelligent Community for the second successive year. The New York-based Intelligent Community Forum announced the finalists in the annual Top7 Awards in Taiwan. The Sunshine Coast is now in the running again for the prestigious Intelligent Community of the Year award, to be announced in June. Read more in News.

Congratulations to Mark Forbes who is the 2020 Sunshine Coast Citizen of the Year. Mark founded endED, a Sunshine Coast service that provides support to people with eating disorders and their families. In partnership with the Butterfly Foundation, Mark has worked tirelessly to raise more than $2.8 million to develop endED Butterfly House, Australia’s first national residential treatment facility for eating disorder sufferers.

In preparation for the submarine cable connection later this month, the landside fibre network has been delivered along with works on the horizontal directional drilling required to facilitate the landing of the cable. Council will soon start the installation phase for the 550km undersea fibre optic cable and then we are full steam ahead for service next year.

    From big data to the Big Pineapple! The multi-million-dollar upgrade of the Sunshine Coast’s most iconic tourism attraction is now approved by council. Total value of the development works is projected to be more than $115 million and the master plan will realise 815 jobs during construction and 700 ongoing permanent jobs. This could see increased visitation to 1 million visitors yearly, with more than 500,000 overnight local stays in the region.
